history
Nadir Afonso (1920 – 2013) was born on December 4, 1920, in Chaves.
Completes the Architecture course at the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes do Porto in 1948 and joins the Grupo dos Independentes, where he participates in all the exhibitions held until he left for Paris in 1946. He enrolls at the Ecole DES Beux Artes to study painting, where he discovered the attraction for geometric painting.
In the first half of the 1950s, in parallel with his pictorial activity, he built a career in his field of training with renowned architects. This professional experience confirms his belief that architecture is a science and not an art.
In 1965 he definitively abandoned architecture to dedicate himself exclusively to painting. He is the author of an extensive artistic production.
Curiosity:
In 1988 Nadir Afonso opened the opening of Galerias Novabila, with an exhibition of some of his works.
