Manuel Fernandes (1946 – 2005), was born on September 10, 1946 in Vila Real.

He started his racing career relatively late, in 1974, when he was 28 years old. He held his first rally in 1976 at Volta ao Algarve at the wheel of a Toyota Corolla 1200. The following year, he won the national promotion championship and five years later the National Speed ​​Championship.

In the late 1980s, he crossed national borders, participating in some events at the European Tourism and Guia Race in Macau.

In his history he has 4 National titles (1983, 1985, 1990, 1991) and more than 32 victories driving different cars.

2003 was his last year as a pilot.
